The gespar is eaten by splitting its reddish-pink outer coating in two and removing the center seed pod, which is customarily saved for replanting. Since ancient times the rind of the gespar fruit has been used in the manufacture of soaps and candle wax, making the subtle spicy/fruity scent a familiar backdrop in Vulcan homes.
