New page

A small decidious tree with broad, stiff, medium to dark green leaves leaves, and usually gnarly branches.

Its name translates to "fire fruit", in reference to the 3-7cm large, yellow to orange/red fruits. Yon-savas is somewhat of an acquired taste for most offworlders, as the flavor is rather spicy and somewhat tangy, but the fruit is rich in vitamins and has long been associated with ancient Vulcan deities of passion.

Yon-savas is edible in its crisp firm state, but has its best flavor when allowed to rest and soften slightly after harvest.

The tree grows wild in Kir and Khomi, and a subspecies with larger, bright red fruits can be found in Tat'Sahr. The most widely cultivated species is the Khomi variety, with a slightly sweet and less tangy fruit (but no less spicy for it), and a soft to occasionally fibrous texture.
