The Lyrillians are a warp capable species located in the Beta Quadrant. Although most of their technology was given to them by an incredibly advanced species called the 'teachers' the Lyrillians have a great understanding of space and physics. They spent several millennia traveling space on their planet-ship Lyrila until the systems began to slowly fail from centuries of decay. By the time they encountered the USS Charon the Lyrillians were in danger of extinction caused by a total system failure.

Species Location

The origin of the Lyrila is unknown even to most Lyrillian scholars. The planet had traveled space for several millennia until they encountered the Charon. Due to system failures the planet could no longer rely on the 'Maker' the power systems devised by the teachers that utilized a stable Omega Molecule as it's heart. As the molecule destabilized it threatened not only the Lyrillians but the entire beta quadrant. Through the ingenious effort by the Charon's crew the molecule was successfully destroyed and planet pushed through time and back bringing it into the habitable zone of a solar system.

The planet is now located in the Rufo-Tyrax system (named after the two Charon officers who discovered it).

Species psychology

The Lyrillians are generally a well educated, although they hold an almost god-like reverence towards the species they call the 'teachers.'

Physiological description

The Lyrillians are a humanoid species. Their average heights are 5' 2" to 5' 8" for females and 5' 6" to 6' 2" for males. Lyrillians tend to be fair skinned, as they have a slight layer of oil above their skin that protects it from environmental factors (including solar radiation). They also have a noticeable ridge of cartilage that forms a 'V' shape right above their eye brows.

Culture and History

"The Lyrillians are more agrarian then technologically motivated. Although they do have schools of thought when it comes to technological expertise the over-reliance has seen their knowledge of such things decay over several millennia under the protection of the Maker. It is believed by most of us xeno-sociologist and xeno-anthropologist aboard the Charon that the Lyrillians were modified genetically by the 'teachers' to handle a transformation from a non-productive primitive culture to the culture that has now developed. Although the history is somewhat fractured they also believe that the 'teachers' became involved with the Lyrillians as a way to preserve the culture from a cataclysmic event. However, stories gathered range from super nova to a wandering black hole. Either way it is believed that the original system from which they originated had long since perished. The true origins of the Lyrillians is unknown as the telemetry data gathered by the Maker systems were destroyed by the detonation of the Omega Molecule.

Overall the Lyrllians have deified the 'teachers' to near god-like status. It has been recorded as a case study in regards to the influence of advanced species on undeveloped cultures, though long term study should be conducted on the issue for a more thorough conclusion." - Doctor Hader Lebernsky, chief xeno-anthropologist, USS Charon.

Government type and description

"It is difficult to describe the governmental system- it almost seems to have its lineage based on educational organization. The best description would be Representative Theocracy. The government is run by Proctors who are chosen by local communities. In turn these proctors select a Grand Procter to lead the committee. The Grand Proctor leads- but he is also considered a religious figure as the representative of the people to the 'teachers.' The Proctors act as both executive, legislature, and judiciary. A second group called 'technicians' appear to be an aristocratic group whose powers derive from their knowledge of the Maker- however with it's destruction it is unknown what their role will be in terms of government." - Ellis Harlow, xeno-sociologist & xeno-political scientist, USS Charon.

Technology level

The Lyrillians have warp capability- most likely through gift from the 'teachers' and have an advanced understanding of warp systems and physics. However their knowledge of greater technology is unknown. Undoubtedly there is the potential of information regarding stabilization of omega molecules and other information located within the countless archives that dot the planet.

Military intelligence report

The Lyrillians have no military. They have small local police forces called 'monitors' who act to keep peace and prevent conflict.
