Biography

Born in March of 2374, Elizabeth was the first child born to Nick and Lessa Jast. Due to the fact that her father was a serving Starfleet officer and her mother was a Betazoid ambassador, Liz was raised by her grandmother, Deanna, until her mother retired in 2376. The following year, Elizabeth's father accepted an extended leave from active duty and moved to Betazed. In 2378, Elizabeth's younger sister, Cassandra, was born. Despite the fact that both of her parents lived at home, Elizabeth spent most of her time at her grandmother's house when she wasn't in school until 2380, when her grandmother died. In an effort to focus her grief into something constructive, Elizabeth focused on her school work and her younger sister. She protested greatly when her father returned to active duty in 2382. Because her father was assigned to a Galaxy class starship and he was allowed to bring his family, the Jast family moved from Betazed to the USS Atlantis. While her sister rarely said anything about the move, Elizabeth was more than willing to voice her opinion of the move. She became more distant from her parents, focusing more on her courses and less on her how her parents felt. She excelled at most of her courses and even became involved in a few sports and after-school programs. In 2393, the USS Atlantis was attacked by a Cardassian cruiser after negotiations over a border world turned violent. Escaping by use of the ships shuttlecraft, Elizabeth, her sister and her mother all escaped, however her father was killed when the Atlantis was destroyed while covering the retreat of the civilians. Moving back to Betazed with her mother and sister, Elizabeth became somewhat cold and distant. She vowed to join Starfleet in honor of her father, and began working towards that goal. In 2394, Elizabeth applied to Starfleet Academy over the objections of her mother. Refusing to discuss the matter, Elizabeth left Betazed after being accepted. Although she requested command school, she was instead given basic medical courses with a specialization major in counseling. In addition, she was allowed to take a number of other courses in the event that she wished to apply for the Academy's command course in the future. Deciding that she wanted to take as many courses as possible, Elizabeth continued with a full schedule until she graduated with a triple masters in Counseling, Diplomacy, and Federation Law in 2402.

Elizabeth’s first assignment was the USS Endeavour, where she served for almost two years before her mother sent word that Elizabeth's younger sister, Cassandra, had gone missing. Briefly resigning from active duty, Elizabeth returned home to assist in the search for her sister, but after a year of searching and finding nothing, Elizabeth and her mother agreed to have Cassandra listed as missing. Upon returning to duty, Elizabeth was approached by Starfleet Intelligence for a special assignment, to which she accepted.

Starfleet Service records between Stardates 240304.02 and 240404.01 are classified.

On stardate 240404.01, Elizabeth requested to be transferred to Starfleet's Diplomatic Office. Her first assignment was as an ambassador to the Manticorean Alliance. After three months, the Manticoreans severed diplomatic ties with the Federation after an assassination attempt on a senior Manticorean officer failed. The Federation was blamed for the attempt due to evidence that had been discovered during the investigation; however it was later ruled as inadequate to mount any charges and both sides settled for a non-aggression treaty in the end. The incident however reflected badly on Elizabeth, and she was assigned to Starbase Midway and later Starbase Aurora as a diplomatic advisor with no diplomatic authority. Following a seven month assignment to Starbase Aurora, Elizabeth was transferred to the USS Foucault as diplomatic and second officer.

On stardate 240510.07, Elizabeth was selected to lead an away team on a previously unexplored world in the Gamma Quadrant. During the away mission, she was 'adopted' by a sentient creature known as a tree cat. Since the adoption couldn’t be undone and there were no Starfleet regulations forbidding serving officers to have pets, Elizabeth kept the cat and named her Aphrodite.

On SD 240512.06, Elizabeth was transferred to the USS Endeavour as second officer. After the Endeavour's first mission was cut short by a Hirogen attack, she was promoted to full commander and named the Endeavour's executive officer after her predecessor disappeared by Captain Shala Natai. While the Endeavour put in for repairs at New Stelleron, a bomb threat was issued, forcing the crew of New Stelleron to place the Endeavour crew into house arrest. While Elizabeth didn't like being placed under arrest, she settled in and accepted it. Aphrodite, however, didn't. The treecat escaped and ran throughout New Stelleron causing a moderate amount of chaos. She was finally caught when an officer transported the cat into a steel wire cage, where she remained until after the incident.

After Elizabeth and her crew mates were released, the Endeavour took part in the rescue of the USS Enterprise-F. Although the Enterprise was destroyed, the Endeavour managed to rescue most of the crew. The Endeavour was ordered to transport the Enterprise crew to Starbase Midway, where the crew was transferred to a new Sovereign II Class starship, the USS Endeavour-D. During their time that the crew was allowed for shore leave, Elizabeth started a relationship with the Endeavour's new Chief Operations officer, Ensign Richard Clark. Shortly afterward, they began to date.

The new Endeavour was assigned to trial runs. As a part of her trials, the ship was assigned to charting a nebula, where the Endeavour encountered the USS Takagawa, Captain Natai's previous command. Elizabeth was left in command of the Endeavour as Natai led the away team to investigate the Takagawa. During the mission, the Endeavour was attacked by an unknown ship. Elizabeth mounted a solo rescue mission to the Takagawa to bring Natai back on board the Endeavour. Shortly after she returned to the Endeavour, Richard caught Elizabeth in a turbo lift and proposed to her, a proposal to which Elizabeth accepted. They were married on stardate 240607.07 shortly after the Endeavour returned to Spaceport for repairs. Taking a leave of absence, Elizabeth and Richard spent time on Betazed, where Elizabeth and her mother reconciled after years of not speaking to each other.

After returning to duty, Elizabeth was assigned to the USS Relentless, a Starfleet ship that was assigned to the UCF fleet. The Relentless performed mostly anti pirate and diplomatic missions while tasked to the Beta quadrant. When the UCF fleet was dissolved almost a year later, the Relentless was assigned to patrol the Federation border along the Romulan and Klingon neutral zones. During this time, Richard and Elizabeth began to drift apart. Elizabeth devoted herself more to her duty as a starship’s commanding officer more than to their marriage, and Richard finally grew tired of trying to force their marriage on her. They separated in 2407.

When the Relentless returned to Utopia Planitia for a refit towards the end of 2407, Elizabeth was transferred to Astate Colony briefly before being assigned to the USS Intrepid. On her first mission, the Intrepid was pulled into an unexplored region of the Beta quadrant, where it remained for two months before being returned to Federation space. Following the incident, Elizabeth and the remaining command staff were reassigned to Earth. Opting to take a break from command, she requested to be assigned to the diplomatic office once more. Returning to Starfleet Command, she learned that Richard had mysteriously disappeared while the Intrepid had been lost in the Beta Quadrant.

On 241001.29, Elizabeth requested a transfer to a starship assignment. She was assigned to the USS Charon as Judge Advocate General. Before departing Earth, Elizabeth finalized her divorce from Richard Clark.
