== Biography ==

Runo Dlya was born on the U.S.S. Lexington about 6 months after his parents were transferred over as part of the civilian science teams. He quickly adapated to life onboard a starship and though the ship wasn't exactly designed with families in mind, his father and mother made due. They were given large quarters and more off-time. Runo was one of ten children onboard the Lexington and although he was part of the group, he was a loner and distrusted the other children. While living on the Lexington due to his parents posting there during his early childhood and preteen years, the ship encountered a compressed tachyon pulse wave, causing minor damage to the ship and causing the ship to lose main power when Runo was around 5. He was about three feet from a console when it exploded and the person operating the console was flung into him causing him a head injury and sent into a coma just prior to the main part of the wave hitting the ship. Due to his unconscious state and his genetics, the wave had mutagentic effects on his central nervous system and his cellular structure causing him to develop high resistance to telepathy. Through out his life, differing "mutations" have arisen and new abilities bestowed to him, some temporary, some not. Later in his life, around the age of 11, the Lexington was surveying a spatial rift in a far flung sector when a serious case of general paranoia spread throughout the ship affecting the crew. As a strange side effect of the rift, Runo had a new mutation to arise and present itself. He temporally developed telepathy and after others found out that he could read their mind, there was mixed reactions while the rest of the crew was under the influence of the rift. He was confined to his parents quarters and the quarters surrounded by a force field until he could control his telepathy. The captain finally locked out all other officers from the bridge and plotted a suicide course into a planet in a nearby system. However, as the ship got further and further away from the spatial anomoly, the paranoia and panic began to decrease and the command staff was able to divert the ship from its course. Much of Runo's telepathy soon disappeared as exposure to the rift vanished and he was allowed to roam the ship again. Afterwards, the chief science officer with the help of several other officers confirmed that the rift had been the cause of the paranoia that gripped the crew. Currently Starfleet's Division of Telepathic Research has Runo under close watch in case another mutation arises.

Born in San Fransisco on Earth to parents who were both doctors working with Starfleet. His father taught part of the Medical Course at Starfleet Medical, while his mother was a researcher with Starfleet Medical. When he was two years old his mother gave birth to his sister, Alyssa. Unfortunately, before Alyssa's first birthday (David was approximately 3 years old) both of his parents and his sister were killed in a tragic acccient when their shuttlecraft as destroyed by Nausicaan pirates. This event eventually lead to a fierce hatred of pirates and outlaws, and of the Nausicaan people in specific.

After the deaths of his family the young boy was taken in by a woman who went by the name of Alice, who had claimed to have been a very close friend of his parents. Alice took the child away from Earth and raised him as her own, though she taught him about his parents and his heritage. However, along with raising the child, she also began teaching him the basics of computer technology, both hand-to-hand and energy weapon combat, and Terran history. By the age of fourteen he was competent in all subjects. By the age of sixteen he had been accepted into Starfleet Academy.

=== The Academy ===

In the Academy he studied medical science, a subject he had enjoyed as a child. He also trained in tactical and security systems on the side. After four years he graduated third in his class.

It was during this time of his life that Alice explained who she was, and described to him the organization she worked for. At the end of their conversation, Alice told him that David had been choosen since before birth to join the ranks of her organization, and that she had groomed him for nearly a decade and a half to do so. Alice offered the young man a position, and David accepted.

=== Life on Warrior ===

On Stardate 240309.12 Lieutenant (Junior-Grade) David King arrived on board the USS ''Warrior'', where he had been assigned as Assistant Medical Officer. It was not long, however, before the department chief was killed in combat, and Captain Soleta promoted the young man to Chief Medical Officer.

Now age 24, the young doctor met TiaRae, a young Orion woman on the run from her past. They quickly began courting and, a year later, were married by Captain Soleta in a ceremony aboard the ''Warrior''. They continued living there peacfully even after Captain Soleta retired and Captain Sasha Spearling took Command with Commander Jolias Enor taking over as First Officer.

Shortly after the change of command Doctor King lead a medical team that found a cure for a diseased world's population, leading to the Doctor's promotion to Lieutenant. Unfortunately Captain Spearling had recently gone on detatched duty, and it was Lieutenant John Strongarm (on behalf of Omicron Command), not the Captain herself, that gave David his promotion.

=== New Life and Life Lost ===

While on a diplomatic away mission to Tharkas IV  he was informed that his wife had just found out she was pregnant. Saddly, just weeks after learning of his TiaRae's pregnancy, David was called off the ''Warrior'' and stationed on Starbase 001, in orbit of Earth. Along with a handful of other doctors from around Starfleet, the recently promoted Lietuenant Commander was faced with one of his most stubborn puzzels yet, a genetically engineered virus spreading through the Federation's agricultural world destroying crops meant feed millions of Federation citizens.

He returned (triumphantly) to the USS ''Warrior'' just over a month before the birth of his daughter, whom the couple named Sarah Elizabeth. One year later the ship came under attack by a group of Romulan vessels set on starting a civil war within the Star Empire; during the attack both TiaRae and Sarah were killed when their quarters decompressed. Their bodies were never found, and Doctor King spiraled into a deep depression.

=== Moving On ===

Immediately after the deaths of his wife and daughter David requested for a transfer off the Warrior. The memories the vessel contained were just too much for the Doctor to contend with and maintain a daily routine with his duties. His request was accepted and he was reassigned to San Frontieres Colony as Surgeon General.

While en route to the colony on board the USS ''Padua'', King once again encoutered a crop-killing plage he had once before defeated. This strand, however, had mutated to an airborn variant which had begun killing off lower animal life on worlds. It was only a matter of time before it mutuated to affect humanoid life forms.

Broke arm, aged 13, playing football in one of the holodecks on board the Lexington with some friends. Fully recovered from injury.
Finally, with the assistance of the medical staff on board the ''Padua'', King was able to once again defeat the plague.

Physically speaking, Runo is athletic and in good health.
=== Dusk and Retirement ===

Mentally speaking, Runo has his good days and bad days. He has little control over his receptive telepathy and so far has no mental illnesses or diseases.
He served as Surgeon General on the colony for eighteen months, before finally deciding to settle down. The life in the service had not been kind to him over the course of the years, and the Doctor thought that a civilian life might be a little calmer.

== Service Record ==
Deciding to stay on the colony, King bought a small cafe on along the river of San Frontieres, which became a very successful establishment. The Sunset Cafe sustained a comfortable lifestyle, and allowed David to meet many different people and make many diverse friends.

*Served aboard the U.S.S. Granger, a Akira-class, for his cadet cruise. He was an assistant helm officer until the end of the posting. He then changed his position to a tactical officer and trained for 7 months.
=== Return to Duty ===
*Accepting position on the U.S.S. Warrior as assistant tactical for first official posting.
*On SD 240709.14 while on an away team to the planet Colony Prime, he was engulfed in a strange phenomenon and he disappeared with it once it dissipated. His whereabouts were unknown and a science detail from the Warrior was unable to locate him. (Left the Warrior as Chief Tactical)
*Around SD 240808.06, he recieved Izmean bio-augmentations to his body, affecting several core systems such as his vision, hearing, metabolism and respiration. With the augments, he is capable of detecting thermal energy if he activates the optical node; his hearing is better than normal humans, can hear higher frequencies of sound and can block out background noise to allow him to focus on one set of sound waves; he can control his breathing and heart rate, as well as being able to store extra oxygen in his cell walls (surviving without breathing for a short time, around 3 to 5 minutes of no outside oxygen intake); he is capable of digesting substances that normal humans would not be able to, as well as process and neutralize toxins within his body faster and more efficiently (ie poisons, alcohol, venom).
*On SD 240901.06, a spatial rift opened on the outskirts of YaDalla Colony and deposited Runo on its surface. He then rejoined Starfleet and accepted a field posting on the U.S.S. Charon docked at Starbase Versailles as one of the Charon's assistant security officers.

After the team was recovered David refused to have the knee replaced, and as a result required a cane to gain any sense of mobility.

Favorite pastimes includes jogging, reading, holo boxing, adventures in the holodecks, culinary experiments, hiking and praticing with weapons on the holodeck. He also enjoys a game of chess, poker and a few other 20th century card games he learned to play.
[UPDATE] After three years of usuing a cane, King finally requested to have the knee fitted with a cybernetic replacement; David now has full use of the leg, though he does have occasional pains. The cane is no longer a necessary apparatus.
