Born on the east coast of America, Ian spent his early life on the grand Lamont family estate.  Owned for generations by the Lamont family dating back to times before First Contact the Lamont estate was well known for its huge old world mansion, lush gardens, and historical significance.  Ian was raised among society's privileged and wealthy elite.  The Lamont family had a well known lineage who had been important historical figures as soldiers, generals, doctors, and diplomats in a family tree the reached back nearly 400 years.  Instilled with the heroic stories of his family's impressive past, Lamont attended to finest schools and was expected to uphold the Lamont family line being the only remaining male heir to the family legacy.

Lamont spent his teenage years socializing and making friends with among the aristocratic elite paving the way for his eventual decision to choose politics and diplomacy as his career.  During this same time Lamont was deeply involved in the campaign of his father who was running for election to a coveted, and hotly contested seat on the Federation council.  The campaign turned ugly when a staunch political rival of his father produced unsubstantiated evidence of brutal atrocities and war crimes committed by Lamont family members shortly after World War III and the collapse of most of the world nations.  With records from that era incomplete, scant, and scattered, Ian's father tried desperately to clear his family's good name despite the false evidence.  The resulting family struggle and stress resulted in his mother and father ending their long marriage in divorce.  Mounting legal fees and public outcry forced the Lamont's into bankruptcy.  Unable to sustain the heavy debts incurred in defending the family name and honor, Lamont's father was forced to sell the family's long time home and land to help pay off his creditors.  Ruined financially and politically, Ian and his father were forced from their life of opulence falling off the societal ladder to its lower rungs.  With little money, Ian's father, a now broken and ailing man, took to bed with increasingly severe medical problems.  As his health deteriorated, Ian's father charged him with the daunting mission of restoring the family name and honor to its former stature and glory.  Lamont accepted his father's last request vowing to him that the family honor would be avenged and that those that had wronged the Lamont name would face retribution for their despicable and dastardly actions.

==Starfleet Career==

Ian enrolled in Starfleet shortly after his father's death and went on the achieve high honors in his classes at the academy.  He served for several years in various command roles in administration duties.  He was eventually posted to the USS Lexington during the outbreak of the Second Dominion War.

===Second Dominion War===

Lamont served with distinction aboard the USS Lexington as its second officer.  Despite his sterling service and record, Lamont did not possess the instinct and skills needed to wage a total, relentless war against a determined enemy.  Sensing Lamont's impressive administrative and social skills could better server the common good elsewhere, the Lexington's captain pushed Lamont to accept a posting within the Starfleet Diplomatic Corps.  Reluctant to leave the fighting, Lamont eventually accepted under pressure from his commanding officer who saw his skills as being wasted in endless battles.  As the war continued to go badly for the Federation, Lamont transferred to the diplomatic corps which were badly in need of skilled politicians and negotiators to help strengthen ties with regional allies and Federation aligned worlds.

In the closing months of the war, Lamont was assigned positions all over the quadrant successfully negotiating treaties, agreements, and pledges between the major powers in the Alpha Quadrant.  A string of quick successes and tough negotiations earned him a promotion in Starfleet to the rank of Commander and an official promotion to that of a full Federation Diplomat by the Diplomatic Corps.  Well liked and respected by his peers, Lamont slowly made a name for himself reclimbing the social ladder from which his family had fallen.

===War's End===

As the war ended, Lamont honed his skills as a rising diplomatic dynamo.  The success he had so fervently craved was finally beginning to elevate him back into circles of influence and power.  As his influence expanded old enemies took note and again rose from the shadows to put an end to the Lamont family once and for all.  After a particular negotiation nearly fell apart but was salvaged by last minute political maneuvering, Lamont soon discovered the secretive activities of old family rivals attempting yet again to discredit and destroy Ian Lamont's reputation, influence, and name.  Infuriated by his rival's petty goals, Lamont made powerful friends and allies within the [[NeoDyne Defense Corporation]] with the intention of using his ever expanding network of power brokers, executives, contacts, and governmental officials to insulate himself from his enemies and finally fulfill his father's wish to go back on the attack with the goal of restoring the Lamont name and reclaiming the Lamont legacy.

===Reassignment===

Lamont was well into planning his revenge against his political enemies when he was suddenly assigned to a deep space mission aboard the USS Charon.  In a partnership with the Romulan government, the Charon was to be dispatched to the far side of Romulan space near the Typhon sector to explore uncharted areas.  With the Charon's commander a former soldier of the Romulan Star Navy, the diplomatic corps insisted that an experienced Diplomat with full diplomatic authority and skills be assigned to the mission in the event of a first contact scenario or to help smooth any problems that might occur with the tenuous joint Romulan-Federation venture.

Furious at the posting, Lamont protested, but was overruled and dispatched as the Charon's Diplomatic Adviser aboard the USS Charon.

U.S.S. Charon

Lamont's time aboard the Charon has had its share of ups and downs. Isolated from his elements, his network of allies, friends, and contacts, Lamont has few friends aboard, but seems able to make his share of enemies. His relationship with the Charon's commanding officer, Commodore (now captain) Shiarrael t`Rehu, begins poorly and eventually degrades to a point where the two officers have little tolerance for the other. Lamont, loosing his temper with the Commodore during a heated argument, ends up in a physical confrontation with the Commodore which has lasting ramifications to their working relationship.

A first contact mission involving a race known as the Lyrillians forces Lamont to reevaluate his position having grown too accustomed to his elitist habits and inflexible social views. The near fatal events during the Lyrillian mission cause Lamont to rethink his position and his place in the universe. Humbled by his experiences his rigid elitism fades somewhat having been granted a different view of life and reality far from the politics and intrigue he left behind in the Alpha Quadrant.

Attack!

An apologetic Lamont swallowed his pride and in a rare show attempted to repair his strained relations with Captain Rehu in her quarters. The conversation, not going well, was interrupted when a Romulan mercenary disguised as an engineering technician and introducing himself as Aev Keirianh held the pair including the Captain's children at gunpoint. With unusual concern for the children, Keiranh allowed them to leave before informing Lamont he had been sent to kill him and that a large bounty had been placed on his head. Thus Lamont's attempt to salvage his relationship with the captain would have to again wait for another day...

Confined to the brig as a result of the encounter with the mercenary for which the captain placed the blame on him, Ian was surprised when Sakarra Tyrax was also confined to his cell due to 'over crowding' in the Charon's small brig facilities. The two spent much time in conversation about recent events including Sakarra's confinement which stunned the ambassador. Lamont, always curious about different cultures, engaged in talk about Vulcan. When he noticed Sakarra prepare to meditate he asked to be shown the ritual. His instruction in the Vulcan art eventually led to an unexpected mental connection which caught Ian and Sakarra by surprise. Sakarra, after some contemplation, believed the phenomenon was due to dormant abilities within Ian a result of Vulcan blood somewhere in his lineage. Ian was shocked at the news knowing of no Vulcan's in his family line which was committed to memory. Regaining his composure Lamont asked to learn more about these unknown abilities which he had previously had no knowledge. The two exchanged thoughts through a weak mental link as Ian explored his newly found ability and learned from Sakarra several tips on their use. Ian thanked Sakarra for the unusual and intimate exchange which she graciously allowed being both a guide and teacher. However, if sufficiently pressed, Lamont can be a dangerous and deadly adversary when armed with a sword.
