In early 2407 the Romulan Star Empire had just begun to stabilize politically after the murder of the Imperial Senate. Wanting to renew ties with the galactic powers the Romulan Empire under the behest of the Praetor entered a joint venture with the Confederation to design a new Destroyer class vessel for the Confederation. This new ship was specifically created to deal with the multitude of new threats arising. By this point in time the Romulans had already contributed greatly to the design for the USS Enterprise – G and decided to go ahead and contribute their technology to the design of another vessel.

Using a mixture of Federation and Romulan technology the first design was commissioned on SD240702.15 and a prototype was constructed and completed on SD 240711.25 at a secret location.

Before the new design could be tested however the Federation was attacked and subsequently withdrew from the Confederation. Fearing that their technology would fall into a third party’s hand a team of Tal’Diann (Romulan Naval Intelligence) raided the secret location and stole the prototype design.

For several months the prototype ship would remain secured at the Romulan Fleet Facilities in the Jezerek system until Ael’Riov t’Rehu learned about it while commissioning vessels for a new war fleet. After a tour of the vessel she received permission to commission it and named the vessel the “Fvullhajun Ra'Dhuil” or “Quantum Fury” after a Starfleet vessel that defected to the Star Empire many years previous.

Returning to Astate colony she presented the prototype vessel to Rear Admiral Enor as a replacement for the destroyed USS Shakaar, under the agreement that the Quantum Fury is only on loan, but could become permanent should ‘honor’ permit. The USS Quantum Fury's dedication plaque was made from the dedication plaque recovered from the destroyed USS Shakaar and it's motto still reads "while we have the time, let us do good."

Other Notes:

• Currently there is only 1 Prototype: The USS Quantum Fury NX-10000

• The Romulan Star Empire currently holds the only copy of the Quantum’s design schematics, the others were lost during a Dominion attack on the secret facility where the ship was designed.

• Full-scale production is currently unlikely. Since the Star Empire holds the only design schematic and the necessity of Romulan Technology in the design the Romulans are unlikely to commit to building new vessels with the Confederation dissolved.
