Iconia is a class M planet located in the Beta Quadrant, and was once the homeworld of the technologically advanced Iconian species. It is currently uninhabited.

History

The planet was devastated by a massive orbital bombardment approximately 200,000 years ago. The Iconians were believed to have been annihilated, although a part of the population may have escaped through their gateways.

The precise location of Iconia was lost to history until 2365, when an artifact bearing an ancient starmap was discovered in an archaeological dig on Denius III. From there, Captain Donald Varley of the Federation starship USS Yamato was able to locate Iconia, and chose to violate the Neutral Zone to reach the planet in order to to prevent Iconian technology from falling into Romulan hands. After the Yamato was destroyed by an Iconian software transmission, the USS Enterprise-D and the Romulan warbird IRW Haakona both traveled to Iconia, where Captain Jean-Luc Picard had the last operational structure on the surface destroyed.

Since the 2401 Federation-Romulan War, Iconia falls withing the boundaries of the Romulan Star Empire. It is located in the Typhon Sector

Geography

In spite of the bombardment, Iconia remains a Class M world; however there is little vegetation remaining on the planet and radiation continues to persist in some areas, a testament to the severity of the attack over 200,000 years earlier. With few landmarks left on the surface, wind and weather have smoothed the terrain. The few exceptions to the flat, bleak landscape are areas where volcanic activity or tectonic plates have caused upheavals in the surface.
