The khaiya is a finely made Vulcan longbow, whose form is somewhat reminiscent of the Terran "Asymmetrical Japanese Longbow".
It is elaborately strung and posseses some characteristics of an advanced compound bow, however most non-Vulcans would find it difficult to use this weapon since it requires significant strength to pull.
Khaiya-tal has much in common with the discipline of Zen-Archery, where the archers will attempt to find a mystical unity between themselves, the bow and the target.
A noted master of Khaiya-tal is the Starfleet officer Tuvok who taught this art at the Vulcan Institute of Defensive Arts before serving on the USS Voyager and consequently the USS Titan.
