Tra-lan Sovar of the Vulcan V’Shar was born in the province of Raal and is in some way related to Charon's helm officer Sakarra Tyrax (certain references point to a common fourth or fifth foremother). A guest instructor at the Vulcan Academy of Defensive Arts, Sovar is known for pushing his students to the limits and then some, which somehow results in more requests for his classes than there are spots available.

Renowned for his unshakeable calm (the words "block of ice" have repeatedly been used by both friend and foe), he nonetheless seems to have forged an unlikely and uncharacteristically close bond with not only his protégée Sakarra but another young relative named T'Para.
