Biography
On stardate 236711.05, Lhura was the 2nd child born to Harmakhis and Nirgal of the House Evekh. Not long after her D'Sora, Lhura's older brother, Nveid (13) was killed on a hunt. Less than a year later, her mother, Nirgal, died from a fall. It was rumored in the family that it was really a suicide. Nirgal was from the Jorani clan and her match to Harmakhis was considered ill-favored; she being too high-strung and soft for the hard way of living the Evekh prefer. Lhura might have been ostersized for being too much like her mother if she had not had the obvious approval of Hru'hfirh Ishen.
Dreaming of becoming a ship commander, Lhura bucked the family tradition of joining the Gai'Shian and instead joined the Galae for her Serona. She soon realized that she lacked the wealth, family connections and the desire to play the political games necessary to attain high rank. Seeing her dream slip away, she pulled a moved that stunned everyone - especially her family. At the end of her Serona she resigned from Galae and applied to Starfleet!
As luck and the Fates had it, the joint cooperation begun by the newly minted Confederation opened an opportunity for her to join Starfleet that would not have been possible anytime before. Lhura spent a year in training at the rank of Ensign, but was promoted to Lieutenant JG and assigned to the USS T'Kumbra under the command of Captain Sardk. The old Vulcan became a mentor to her and was instrumental in helping her adjust to Federation ways.
Her next assignment was not so fortunate, the captain of the USS Ataturk had lost a close friend in combat with Romulans. Though Captain Kallstrom tried to put his personal feelings aside and be objective, he could not and for both his sake and hers, he had her transferred.
By this time - 2398 - tensions were building between the Federation and the Star Empire. Fearing hostilities would begin soon that would put her in an impossible position of having to choose who to support, Lhura requested a posting that would place her as far from the conflict as possible - the USS Vega that was departing for a 5-year mission in the Gamma Quadrant. So successful was this assignment, Lhura took a second tour with the Vega and was promoted from Chief of Security to First Officer.
At the end of the next 5-year mission, the Vega returned to the Alpha Quadrant. While the war between the Federation and Empire had past, Lhura's career had stalled. The next progression for her was command training that would eventually lead to a command of her own, but too many in Starfleet Comand could not trust such a position to a Romulan. Lhura resigned and finally returned to the Empire.
However, having spent so much time away, her loyalty was in question. In an attempt to prove herself, she rejoined the Galae. She was assigned to the Ahuian Colony where her experience with the Federation was believed to help with the diplomatic balance of sharing that world.
