Biography

Birth

Callistra Grey was born on the world of Betazed, in the sea-side city of Dalaria in the lovely province of Dalar which bordered the stunning Opal Sea. She was the product of two parents from varying species, one of them being Betazoid and the other of which was Kriosian. Ten years prior to her birth, her mother, Soraya Vray (of the First House of Betazed, Great Lady of the Divine Scepter, Possessor of the Harp of Zendra, and Heir to the Crown Jewels of Betazed) was the acting Ambassador from Betazed to the planet of Krios Prime where she met Ambassador Aldiram Vi'Valdi, the Ambassador from Krios Prime to Betazed. The pairing of the two was wholly surprising because they first barely got along, either one of them having a short fuse. Aldiram was not used to such an abbrasive outgoing and honest woman who did not seem to tolerate disrespect towards her or her people. Meanwhile, Soraya too was astonished at his bold and self-assertive manner which the average man on Betazed seemed to lack. In time, the anger each had towards one another dissipated into love and it was not long before they were addressing themselves as "imzadi". Unlike the majority of full-blooded Kriosians, young Kallistra was born with natural abilities, as an empathic metamorph and due to her being one, she was born with telepathic powers which was not too common in Betazoids or even half-blooded Betazoids. There were no theories as to why she was born that way but it was suggested that the recessive genes triggered the abnormality.

Childhood on Krios Prime

During the first two years of her life, she rarely ever saw anything of her father and remained on Betazed in her mother's family's care. Belonging to the First House of Betazed, the House of Truth and Honesty, the Vray family was one of the most prominent and foremost families on the planet. Young Kallistra was given attentive care by her maternal relatives for they often doted upon her in the absence of her mother. There were times when Soraya had to travel elsewhere to tend to her diplomatic duties as an ambassador of Betazed. Only during the holidays and while on break from his diplomatic duties, Aldiram visited his young daughter.

Shortly after turning three, at the behest of his request, the fledgling family relocated from their home on the Opal Sea on Betazed to the Vi'Valdi family estate back on Krios Prime. It was on that planet that it became known to her paternal relatives and her parents that she was different in more ways than one. From her early years on, she would come to think of difference as a disability, in a way. Once the paternal family discovered her "disability", it was reported to the Kriosian regime which incurred the wrath of her mother and displeased her father immensely. At the age of four, she was removed from her parent's home, by the state, and taken to a village where it was planned that she would be taught in the Kriosian ways. Her mother being a strong and unrelenting woman made the declaration that if he daughter was to be acclimated to the Kriosian ways, she would also be also have to be instructed in the Betazoid way of things. At first the Elders were against such a stipulation but eventually gave up on the issue and let her win.

The Village

In the royal village where she was sequestered by the state, Kallistra was tended to by tons of servants and tutored endlessly by teachers on an array of subjects. The village was so isolated and located on the edge of a large forest that she rarely ever saw anyone that was not a servant of a tutor. The only visitors she was allowed to have were her parents who would come and visit her once every two months to check up on her welfare. She was taught about Kriosian literature written by the greats of earlier times, the extended Kriosian chronological timeline of history, essentially about art, and sex (the latter of which her mother objected). Aside from being taught by Kriosian tutors, her mother established several tutors for her about Betazoid history, Betazoid culture, Betazoid philosophy, Betazoid art, and Betazoid religion. At the beginning of all of the teaching, Kallistra was extremely overwhelmed by all of the topics she was taught. Yet the years wore on and the only time she was permitted out of the village was when she was travelling to Betazed on certain holidays to visit her mother's family. However, her mother immediately noticed the symptoms of her intense telepathy and she was set to speak with a Betazoid specialist, a particular doctor. On average, the doctor would give her pills to inhibit or at least decrease the ability of the telepathy to fully function. She set aside time to meditate and focus on centering herself in order to keep the telepathy under complete control which helped her quite a lot. It was during that time that she became rather religious, more so interested in Betazoid religion. Even before her fifth birthday, Kallistra, much like earlier Kriosian women, was officially betrothed to a Valtese man of regal bearing. The Valtese man was named Volathor Da’More. While she was but five years of age, he was much older than her, approximately about fifteen years her senior.

Running away

Once she reached the age of sixteen, it was announced that she completed her Kriosian and Betazoid training. Immediately the Kriosian government planned to marry her off to the high-ranking Valtese Volathor but before the marriage took place at the Temple of Akadar, Soraya snuck into the Royal Village in the dead of the night and escaped with her daughter to Betazed. Soraya’s move completely created a great uproar amongst the Kriosians and the Valtese and resulted in the downfall of her reputation as a great Betazoid diplomat. In fact, it completely tarnished her reputation and she was soon dismissed of her post as Ambassador from Betazed to Krios Prime. Much to Kallistra’s dismay, her parents began to quarrel completely. Aldiram was completely disconcerted by his wife's actions and flat out declared that she betrayed him and insulted his family's honor by what she did. The action seemed to almost destroy the once wonderful marriage they had. It would be years before they would connect again but until that occurred, Soraya stayed on Betazed and Aldiram, on Krios Prime. Soraya clandestinely feared that the Kriosian government would seek to take her daughter back so she took precautions to ensure that such attempts would prove fruitless. She ensured that the perimeter of the Vray sea-side mansion was secured with an array of several Klingon guards. Whenever Kallistra wandered out of the house, it was always in the presence of a servant or two, never alone. The sixteen-year-old enjoyed life on Betazed, not that she didn't initially enjoy life on Krios Prime, but on her birthplanet, she was allowed to move around and do as she wished. There was no one hovering over her shoulder telling her not to do this or not to do that. Since the Vray family of the First House was a popular house, Kallistra had a coming out ball into the upper-crusts of Betazed society. As such, she was often victimized by her mother's ostentatious displays so it was quite normal that she found herself in a dress that was much too flamboyant for her taste. Life seemed to be an endless parade of cotillions, fêtes, soirées, masquerade balls, picnics, banquets, feasts, festivals and the like. Unlike the Royal Village on Krios Prime, Betazed was loud and noisy with laughter and always a party to attend. Betazed was completely alien to Kallistra. In fact, she preferred the quiet of the Royal Village where she lived a calm and sheltered life away from strangers. It was like her servants were her family. However, she was frightened by the telepathic openness of the Betazoid people though she never exhibited her emotions freely (as Betazoids generally did); but they knew what she hid.

At the age of 16, as a debutante.

What Kallistra absolutely loved about life on Betazed was the warm people and being permitted room to breathe. She could move about freely without servants hovering over her shoulder instructing her to do this or do that. Every night, there was a ball or a banquet to attend where she could dance with many handsome dark-eyed men and bask in the easiness of the Betazoid people. She found one particular beau in a Betazoid count, Elian Troi, a man from the Fifth House of Betazed: the House of Nobility. He was a dashing man who was the best dancer she had ever met and he never ceased to regale her with amazing stories or to keep her breathless from incessant dancing. She was the only one in the high society that could withstand his constant dancing, with fortitude. Although she enjoyed life on Betazed, she soon became disillusioned by the materialism that was so prominent in the upper-crust. Soon enough, everything became repetition more than anything. Elian and Kallistra quickly grew apart. Despite the fact she found Betazoid society to be beautiful, she felt that there was something more to her life than dancing, eating, and her mother flaunting her before the wealthy young men of Betazed.

Kallistra knew that her mother possessed future designs for her. Soraya hoped she would one day become a politician as it was customary in her family for the women to be involved in politics. Being apart of the First House, the house of Truth also ensured that they would abide by honesty in terms of political or diplomatic decisions. However, she did not share her mother’s desire to be a politician nor did she wish to be the wife of Volathor the Valtese. The only thing she yearned to do was to explore and to study life. Being tied down was something that she abhorred and she was more than willing to seize fate and make what she could of it.

Betrayal

With no further plans to do anything of consequence, Kallistra set off from Betazed without her mother’s permission. In fact, she left only a note and crept out of the house in the dark of the night. Of course Soraya was infuriated by the turn of events but soon she came to her senses and realized that she was pushing her daughter into the life that she herself wanted.

Kallistra was only seventeen when she embarked out into the world by herself. Initially she hadn’t a clue of where to go or what to do. She had many aunts and uncles on the worlds of Betazed, Krios Prime and Valt Minor but due to the past issues, she exhibited no desire to visit them all. Before she had left, she packed only a meager amount of items belonging to her. Chiefly items of importance over an excessive ensemble which her mother would have suggested. With not a clue where to go, she decided, against her best judgment, to travel to Krios Prime to see her father whom she missed. It had been years since she last saw him and she was determined to not allow the dissension between her parents to ruin her relationship with her father. With not so much as sending word, she hopped aboard a public transport and made her way to Krios Prime.

Once she arrived, she visited with her father although he was engaged with pressing matters of business. On her entering the house, he was pleasantly surprised to see his daughter but barely even recognized her as she appeared. Much to her dismay and astonishment, she soon learned that her father had remarried to a traditional Kriosian woman named Amnah. Amnah was nearly four years older than her, an olive-skinned auburn-haired beauty that did not look upon her too kindly. In fact, whenever she did address her, it was with a condescending tone. At first Kallistra could not figure out as to why she detested her but one afternoon while on a picnic she let down her shield and overheard her thoughts. Amnah’s thoughts conveyed how she thought of Kallistra as a threat, and how envious she was that she was there. In several ways, her father’s new bride seemed Machiavellian in her manner, stepping on everyone and everything to get exactly what she wanted. Her husband’s undivided attention and complete adoration.

When Amnah did learn of Kallistra’s condition, she immediately pressed the issue of his daughter’s betrothal to Volathor. Aldiram possessed a kind soul and an affable manner but when it came to money, he would sell anything in exchange for it. Upon hearing his new wife’s suggestion, he immediately concurred with her and began planning to arrange a formal engagement. Furthermore, he knew full well that the Kriosian regime would seek to have Kallistra in their hands once more so he immediately began talks with the affluent family of Volathor.

Abducted

Kallistra was absolutely furious when she discovered her father’s so-called “plans to look after her security” and planned to leave as soon as she could. One morning she packed her meager belongings in a backpack once more and announced she was going to pick berries, she quit her father’s home in hopes of never returning again. Krios Prime was beginning to seem alien to her as well.

As she left the wrought iron gate of her father’s estate, she was approached by two Ferengi males that seemed as if they were lost. The taller of the two was holding a map and the two of them were studying it carefully. The shorter one rubbed his orange hands together. Once they noticed her, they inquired as to if she knew a Kallistra Vray and when she conveyed to them that that was her name, the taller one grinned greedily. The next moment, the smaller Ferengi slipped a bag over her and tugged down on it real fast while the taller Ferengi barked orders. Before she knew it, she was put into a speeder and the Ferengi drove off hastily. The next few hours that crept by were excruciatingly slow in the bag.

When the Ferengi removed the bag from her head, she came to the realization that they were in space. As she gazed out the viewport, she could see the silhouette of Krios Prime with its greens and blues. The taller Ferengi gave her a toothy smile as he told her that they “liberated” her from her odious life. The first week dragged by slowly as she remained on the ship for neither of the Ferengi allowed her out of their sight. Although abducted by them, she was treated fairly well and the smaller Ferengi seemed to dote on her quite a lot.

Terra

The second week did not run so smoothly. The taller Ferengi professed his "love" for her and attempted to buy her love in return for as many bars of latinum as she wanted. Kallistra was still watched like a hawk and when in a public setting, she was not allowed to speak with others. As the weeks wore on, the taller Ferengi, Nok ordered her to become what he wanted in a female but she had no clue how to. Nor did she want to do such a thing. The Ferengi landed on some planet referred to as Earth or Terra to refuel their starship and the first chance she had, she sprinted away from them into the crowd while they were looking the other way. The was the last time she saw her Ferengi captors and that was nothing she was sad about.
