Alexis Karyna Furrows grew up on the Luna colony of Earth's moon while both her parents were stationed there for scientific research assignments in Starfleet. As a young girl she regularly attended the lectures her parents put on for the other officers and personnel, but rarely understood the topics in any detail. Naturally, being a child, she tried to follow in their footsteps, attempting to take classes geared towards the sciences in chemistry and biology. Unfortunately she lacker her mother's patience and her father's will to succeed and eventually tried another path.
Shortly after being accepted into starfleet academy, she decided to train to become a fighter squadron engineer. For what Lexi lacked in scientific prowess, she made up for in strength of character and courage. Her friends would describe her as a tough softy. She'd tell you to your face exactly what was on her mind, but she was soft-spoken, and gentle in her delivery.
She accepted a post aboard the ailing deep-space 9, and eventually transferred to the USS Intrepid-D when many of her pilots were killed, and talks of a fighter escort wing being installed into the battleship were beginning to pop up. She jumped on the opportunity to work on such a massive vessel on such an exciting mission, since sovereign class ships rarely got outfitted with fighter bays. The opportunity was a disappointment, however, when the Intrepid was reassigned to a new area of space, and her CO promoted. The Intrepid's refit was cancelled and the fighters returned to their previous posts. Lexi, on the other hand remained aboard the ship.

In her short stint aboard the vessel she got to know her department head, Landon Neyes, quite well. The two quickly formed a strange bond and started dating after their first mission together. After a year of serving on the vessel, Furrows exchanged departments and moved to the post of Engineering specialist. Landon and Lexi made their relationship public. While they both retained their own quarters, Lexi mostly lived out of Neyes', simply due to the fact that his were larger and more comfortable. She also appreciated the privacy away from her roommate in her own quarters.
When the Intrepid was lost in the Andromeda Galaxy, Landon was thrown back due to a shuttle engine test. Lexi and the Intrepid have not been heard from since Ensign Neyes returned.
