Brooke, nicknamed Brooklyn for her full name by her father, began her life in Manhattan, NY on Earth. Her father, Bill, was a computer technical consultant for Starfleet R&D. Her mother, Caroline, was a literature teacher for a middleschool in New York, but retired early due to problems with her mental health, similar to mild schitzophrenia.
Brooke was a tomboy growing up, mostly thanks to her two older brothers and father being her primary nurturers since her mother was unfit most of the time to raise her as a more feminine daughter. Her father and brothers were devout Christians, though she came to consider herself an agnostic from an early start. Instability in her home life led to her experimenting with alternative lifestyles, but two things remained constant: her love of pond skating in winter and her ability to fix things. When she came of age, her first job was at McKinley Station and the Earth Spacedock in Earth Orbit as an entry-level civilian dockworker. That she was a woman in such a job was unusual, but she quickly earned her place among her new peers.
After a few years, the Starfleet Operations Manager of McKinely Station suggested that she had the necessariy skills and ability to apply to Starfleet Academy, and sponsored her application. The following year, she was accepted and began the path to become an Starfleet Engineer. She ran into some trouble in her second year for knocking out a fellow student, so she was forced to redo the second year before moving on. Regardless, her technical courses and hands-on labs showed her to be able and resourceful, if not always the most orderly. Upon graduation, she was assigned to the USS Dirae as an Assistant Engineer.
After coming aboard the Dirae at Starbase Versailles, she and Cadet Ti'Brus were given the midnight shift while the ship was still in dock. During this time, the Dirae's bio-neural gel-pack circuits were infected by a 'sentient' organic virus which took over the Holodeck 2 subsystem as well as most of the primary computer core. Brooke took charge of the situation and, with the help from an accidental discovery in the Science lab, was able to destroy the contamniation. The result, however, was that all of the infected gel-packs were destroyed, and Brooke headed the clean-up and replacement operations before her first shift ended.
In the following weeks, Irons proved herself to the CEO and to the captain, earning her commision to Ensign. Just prior to the next mission assignment, Brooke was given the task of performing maintenance on the holodeck systems, during which a holo-emitter was replicated without her request and subsequently went missing. Before she could look into it, however, she had to assist the CEO in configuring a shuttle for a dangerous mission into a hostile asteroid field. In the ensuing battle, Irons was severely injured while unsuccessfully attempting to get the starboard impulse engines back online. After several hours of recovery in Sickbay, which had become filled with other casualties, Irons returned to engineering against doctor's orders and proceeded to organize repairing the damage from the battle.
The USS Dirae arrived at Starbase Zetari a week later after rescuing the crew of the Deliverance and Irons began coordinating the extensive repair efforts with the starbase teams. She was then promoted to Lt.(jg) for her dedication and transferred to the USS Desire, which was returning to Starbase 22.
Medical History
History of lower back pains have plagued her all her life, caused by high anxiety and stress. She takes weekly low-impact meds to deal with it.
Appearance
Suuraht looks like a large boulder with green and violet algea growing on her. Covering the sides and also beneath her carapace are violet colored fibrous phalangi that assist her with movement. Normally Suuraht wears a mechanical back peice that extends the entire length of her body. Pinned to it is a blue, gray, and black cloth that holds her commbadge and rank insignia. On the front-top of her carapace is an emerald gem that lights up every time she speaks.
Other Notes
Quirks
Both of her iris's have a single dark line of brown across the hazel, and she likes to draw.
Personality
She is generally standoff-ish around people she does not know, preferring to tinker with something in her hands in such situations, but once she gets to know someone they find she has a quirky sense of humor. She can also be exceptionally stubborn at times, especially when she believes she is right. And she really hates to be interrupted by 'bureacratic nonsense' when she's doing her job.
