Itsak tr`Sahen

From IRW Aylhr

A Vaek'Riov in the Romulan Star Navy and cousin of Shiarrael t`Rehu.

Born to Teelis t`Sahen and the Vulcan Somok, Itsak was considered a blemish on his house by Teelis' father, the Rei’Krannsu EnRiov Jamor tr`Sahen. When Somok abandoned Teelis and Itsak for unkown reasons, and Itsak's mother died soon after, the infuriated Jamor tr`Sahen refused to raise the halfbreed child and instead brought him to the s`Rehu estate to ask Shiarrael's mother Nhasaen to look after him.

Prevented from joining the Rei’Krannsu, Itsak found unexpected help from his aunt and grand-uncle (former Galae En’Riov Verol tr`Rehu) and was sponsored by the latter to enter War College, and eventually the Galae.

While the relationship between Itsak and his cousin Shiarrael was turbulent, there was genuine affection on both sides and Shiarrael would often come to Itsak's defense when he was shunned by his peers, while Itsak attmpted to protect Shiarrael from the consequences of her often impulsive actions, eventually conceding that his efforts to steer her towards more responsible behavior were in vain.

The cousins' paths should diverge for many years, as Shiarrael pursued her chosen path - unsurprisingly, one fraught with much tumult - and Itsak advanced through the ranks by virtue of sheer determination and skill. In some ways the unremarked opposite of his oft brilliant, always passionate cousin, Itsak gained a reputation as being an unreadable, unpredictable commander posessed of fierce discipline and a penchant for ruthlessness.

Unknown to his adopted family, Itsak harbored a deep hatred for his father's species, and over the years conceived a plan for vengeance. The means for such an undertaking came within his reach when he appropriated the Memento Mori Virus from rogue elements in the Eastern Empire and was able to deceive the IRW Endless Sky's Tal'Shiar political officer long enough to retain a sample.

An unexpected reunion with his cousin should occur in 2409, when the by then exiled Shiarrael served as Captain of the Federation Starship USS Charon, sent to explore a stellar nursery on the far side of Romulan space, but in fact on a mission to find the lost Vulcan science vessel Temep`Shar.

This fateful reunion also should prove a crossroads, when a member of Shiarrael's crew caught Itsak's attention - a Vulcan with whom he would become increasingly preoccupied. Torn between the bitterness and enmity for her species and the unwanted attraction that the woman evoked in him, Itsak's uncharacteristically volatile behavior did not go unnoticed by his second, Hanaj.

By the end of 2410 events culminated after Itsak's retrieving the Temep`Shar, with his cousin unable to prevent it, although Shiarrael was able to save the few survivors of the heavily damaged ship. Rather than turn over the techology to the Tal'Shiar however, Itsak mortally wounded the political officer and towed the ship to I'Rak Prime for repairs. When it became clear the wormhole technology was too badly damaged, jeopardizing his plans for an attack on Vulcan, Itsak ordered the USS Charon captured and the databases searched, while the Vulcans were to be test subjects to refine the Memento Mori Virus.

An unexpected sabot in the machinery of his plans was his cousin's first officer, whom he claimed for himself: partially to determine how and why the Vulcan was in possession of Temep`Shar's schematic (or rather, those of the sister ship VSS Seleya) and what her connection to V'Shar might be, but also because his obsession with her had not diminished. Unable to break the Vulcan in interrogation, or indeed in any way, Itsak became increasingly distracted by his captive, to the point where he appeared to nearly lose interest in the long sought vengeance against his father's home world. With matters left to Hanaj, delays were inevitable and should in fact prove the reprieve Charon's crew needed to save Vulcan.

While the attack reached the Vulcan system, tr`Sahen was killed and his fleet destroyed before the virus could be released into the atmosphere. However, Itsak should die believing his actions had caused Commander Sakarra's death, and never learned that a child had resulted from his actions.

Survivors of the event claim that with his last words tr`Sahen confessed to his cousin Shiarrael he had in fact fallen in love with her 'thaessu'.
